Certifications
cCARE is now the only Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) certified oncology practice in the Central Valley.
What is QOPI certification?
Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) is a program of The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), a national professional organization for medical oncology, to set high standards of patient treatment and safety.
To become QOPI certified, an oncology practice must demonstrate excellence in the following areas:
- Treatment Planning
- Staff Training and Education
- Chemotherapy Orders and Drug Preparation
- Patient Consent and Education
- Safe Chemotherapy Administration
- Monitoring and Assessment of Patient Well-Being
How does an oncology practice become QOPI certified?
The certification process consists of an extensive chart extraction and review of patient records. The data is submitted to the QOPI national committee to review and evaluate that all core standards are met.
All QOPI certified practices are subject to on-site inspections and review of submitted documentation, and certification requires resubmission every three years.
What does this mean for patients?
cCARE is the only practice in the Central Valley, and only one of seven in the state, that is QOPI certified. As a referring physician, your patients can be assured the highest level of cancer care at a QOPI certified practice.
Specific areas of excellence include:
- Appropriate cancer management, such as appropriate diagnosis and management of specific malignancies
- Patient safety, such as chemotherapy administration competencies and safety checks
- Chemotherapy toxicity management, including the measurement of treatment toxicity and care for it appropriately
- End of life counseling
